Browsing Help

[return-to: MH & xmh Book Home Page] [table of contents] [index]

Here are some notes to help you use the online edition of this book:

  • Trying to find something in the book? When you're searching, remember that you can do more than use the system-searchable index. Your browser probably has a built-in search command to search the page you're viewing. So try a search command inside the table of contents. Or, when you pull up a page of the book, and you don't see the place you were looking for, use your browser's search command on that page.
  • These files use the HTML non-breaking space character,  , to hold related words together; if you see it in the text, either get a better Web browser or imagine that you're seeing a single space. The same goes for some non-ASCII characters, like ¡ (an upside-down exclamation point, represented in HTML as ¡) and this ñ (an n with a tilde (~) over it, reperesented in HTML by the entity ñ).

If your browser has any of those problems, you'll have some trouble viewing these files because your page won't look exactly the way it should.

  • If your connection to this Web site is slow, you can FTP copies of the book files to install on your local computer. They take 4 or 5 Megabytes of disk space after uncompressing. The versions on this server, which has the original MH book, won't be updated. To get the latest versions, check the updated servers (listed on the home page). You can get the original book in two formats: gzipped tar file (good for UNIX systems) and a ZIPped file for DOS/Windows and other machines with ZIP-compatible unarchiving programs. Be sure to get the README file for more info.

Quotes: Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
